Overview

OVERVIEW

The Caregiver performs hands-on and stand by assistance with Activities of Daily Living for Residents residing in the Community. The Caregiver reports directly to the Director of Health and Wellness and is accountable also to the Nurse Supervisor assigned on each shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least six (6) months of experience with care of seniors in a healthcare environment required
  • Current First Aide and CPR Certification required
  • S.T.N.A./CNA preferred

JOB DUTIES

Resident Personal Care

  • Manages Resident care for an assigned group of Residents in accordance with their Individualized Service Plan
  • Ensures Resident rights to privacy and dignity are met in providing personal care
  • Assists Residents with activities of daily living that include, but are not limited to:
  • Bathing, dressing, grooming, ambulation, transferring, toileting, incontinence care, nutrition

Other Resident Care Responsibilities

  • Performs daily housekeeping of the Resident suite to include:
  • Bed making with change of linen if soiled
  • Wipe down and disinfecting of bathroom surfaces as needed
  • Clean up of spills, clutter and such so the suite is neat and tidy
  • Pull all trash at least once each shift, and anytime trash receptacle is full or holds items that are malodorous, with replacement of trash can liner
  • Performs laundry service for Resident as follows:
  • Weekly, or as needed, laundering of Resident clothing
  • Weekly, or as needed, laundering of Resident bed and bath linens
  • Reminds and assists with encouraging Residents to participate in activities occurring throughout the day

Documentation

  • Documents Resident care in accordance with policy
  • Uses continuous observation skills to identify changes in Resident condition
  • Seeks nurse supervisor consultation immediately when there are questions or concerns related to Resident care and safety

Team Participation

  • Seeks to assist other team members in completion of their duties
  • Partners with other team members in serving meals in the dining room

Communication

  • Ensures shift crossover report with oncoming Caregiver
  • Does not leave shift until relief has arrived
  • Reports all issues, incidents, complaints and resident changes in condition immediately to the Nurse Supervisor on the shift

Issue Resolution

  • Addresses family questions or issues that may arise during shift in a professional and attentive manner

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED

Frequent body movements include lifting, moving, transferring, bending (static forward bending), stooping, squatting and reaching. Able to do heavy lifting, pushing, pulling and/or carrying of objects weighting up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted with twisting and turning of trunk. Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Because the essential functions of the job may require general involvement in our health care facilities, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Categories 2 and 3, environmental and safety conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position, a person will have the ability to work in this type of environment without posing a direct threat to self or others.
